Half-empty classes after September?

Bigger schools appear first

Established academies and franchises take the local searches.

Gaps in the timetable

Some classes are full while others never quite get going.

Pupils drop off after a term

Children try a class, then families move on to something else.

Grown-ups think it’s just for kids

Your adult tap and ballet sessions exist, yet locals assume the studio only teaches children.

Why it matters

Why local SEO matters for dance schools

Dance is a weekly local habit. Parents want a school they can reach easily after school or on a Saturday morning, so they search for one close by — often for a style like ballet, tap or street dance, or for a class for a specific age — and choose from the first few they see.

Before they book a trial, they look for qualified teachers, safeguarding, exam options, a clear timetable and reviews from other parents. AI assistants are increasingly asked questions like “a good ballet school for a four-year-old near me”, and they rely on the same signals.

We help your school appear for those searches with an optimised Google profile, consistent listings, clear content about your classes, teachers and exams, and hand-built links from family, arts and local websites.

Is it worth it?

What is a new member worth to you?

Enter what a typical new member is worth to your business — for example the value of the first job or booking, or what they spend with you in a year. We will show how many new members a month would cover each plan.

We have started you at £500, a typical figure for dance schools. Change it to your own.

Local Starter£399/month1 new member a month covers it
Local Growth£749/month2 new members a month covers it
Authority£1,349/month3 new members a month covers it

This is simple maths, not a prediction: results depend on your market, your reviews and how well you convert enquiries. Judge it on calls, bookings and enquiries over three to six months.

SEO for dance schools: your questions

We teach in church halls and community centres. Can we still appear on Google Maps?

It depends. Under Google’s rules, a regular class held somewhere you neither own nor have authority to represent can’t have its own Business Profile, so a weekly booking at a church or scout hall normally won’t qualify. We’ll check what fits Google’s current guidelines for how you work, and where a profile isn’t possible we’ll focus on your website, directory listings and exam board listings so families can still find you.

We teach at several venues. Which plan do we need?

The Authority plan includes multi-location strategy, giving each venue or studio its own optimised profile and visibility in its own area. If you run one studio with several teachers, Growth is usually the better fit.

When should we expect more trial class bookings?

Sorting out your profile and class listings can start to help within a few weeks. Higher map positions and mentions in AI answers normally take three to six months, depending on how many dance schools compete nearby.

Starting well before September and January puts you in a stronger position when most families and adults look for a new class.

We go quiet over the summer holidays. Are we tied in?

No. You pay month to month, so you can stop before any billing date, including over the long summer break. Your Google profile, class directory listings and links all stay where they are.

Which teaching qualifications and checks should parents see?

Show each teacher’s dance teaching qualification and their membership of an exam board such as the RAD, ISTD, IDTA or BBO — for example, only RAD Registered Teachers can enter pupils for RAD exams. Parents also look for enhanced DBS checks, safeguarding training, first aid and insurance, so mention them clearly on your website and Google profile.

Do we need a licence for our end-of-year show?

Possibly. Children taking part in performances often need a child performance licence from the council where they live, unless an exemption applies, such as a Body of Persons Approval from the council where the show takes place, where no child is paid. Rules on chaperones also apply. Check with your local council well before the show, because applications need notice.

Is it worth listing termly class fees online?

Usually, yes. Parents compare schools before they get in touch, so clear termly or monthly fees, the length of each class, any sibling or multi-class discounts and the likely extra costs — uniform, exam fees and show costumes — help the right families book a trial. Explaining your notice and refund terms simply avoids misunderstandings later.

How can we keep pupils from term to term?

Give every child something to work towards, such as a graded exam, a medal test, a show or a new class when they move up an age group. Regular updates to parents, a friendly welcome at drop-off and simple re-enrolment before the end of term all help. Sibling discounts and adult classes for parents can keep whole families involved.

How do dance schools win new pupils by word of mouth?

Word of mouth among parents is often a big source of new pupils, so a good reputation at the school gate matters. Ask your families for a review after a show or exam results, offer a bring-a-friend trial week, and build relationships with local nurseries, primary schools, after-school clubs and theatre groups. Taster sessions at summer fairs and community events are a natural way to meet new families.
