Empty spaces at holiday camp?

Holiday camps book late or not at all

Parents decide weeks before the holidays, then pick whoever they find first.

Termly drop-off

Children move on each term, and new sign-ups don’t always replace them.

Hard to prove you’re safe

Parents want to see DBS checks, safeguarding and insurance before they book.

Franchises appear first

National brands dominate search, even for clubs in your own town.

Why it matters

Why local SEO matters for children’s activity clubs

Parents look for activities within a short drive or walk of home or school, and they search at predictable moments: before each school holiday, at the start of term and when a child shows a new interest. The clubs at the top of the map are the ones that make their shortlist.

Trust decides the booking. Parents want to know who the coaches are, whether staff are DBS checked, and whether they can pay with Tax-Free Childcare. AI assistants are increasingly asked “what holiday camps near me take five-year-olds?”, and they rely on clear, consistent information to answer.

We help your club appear for those searches with an optimised Google profile, consistent listings, clear content about your sessions, ages and safety, and hand-built links from family, school and local websites.

Is it worth it?

What is a new family worth to you?

Enter what a typical new family is worth to your business — for example the value of the first job or booking, or what they spend with you in a year. We will show how many new familys a month would cover each plan.

We have started you at £1,500, a typical figure for kids' clubs. Change it to your own.

Local Starter£399/month1 new family a month covers it
Local Growth£749/month1 new family a month covers it
Authority£1,349/month1 new family a month covers it

This is simple maths, not a prediction: results depend on your market, your reviews and how well you convert enquiries. Judge it on calls, bookings and enquiries over three to six months.

SEO for children’s activity clubs: your questions

We run sessions in school halls and leisure centres we hire. Can we still appear on Google Maps?

It depends. Google’s guidelines say an ongoing class at a location you don’t own or have the authority to represent isn’t eligible for a Business Profile, so a profile at a hired hall usually isn’t allowed. We’ll check what fits Google’s current guidelines for how you work — for example, if you have your own staffed venue or office — and where a profile isn’t possible we’ll focus on your website, a page for each venue and directory listings so parents can still find you.

We run several venues, or we’re a franchisee. Which plan do we need?

The Authority plan includes multi-location strategy, giving each venue or territory its own page and visibility in its own area, with a Business Profile wherever you’re eligible for one. If you run one main venue with a team of coaches, Growth is usually the better fit.

Franchisees should check what their franchise agreement allows for websites, listings and branding. We work within those rules and focus on the local signals you control.

When might more parents start booking places?

Sorting out your profile and family directory entries can bring more enquiries within a few weeks. Climbing the map and being suggested by AI assistants for clubs and camps tends to take three to six months, depending on how many other providers are nearby.

Parents often book summer camps in spring and weekly clubs before each term starts, so starting a few months ahead of your busiest period puts you in a stronger position.

We go quiet between holidays. Do we have to stay signed up?

No. You pay a month at a time and can cancel before the next billing date, so a slow half-term is never a trap. Your club keeps the profile, listings and links we have set up.

Should our club register with Ofsted?

In England, some activity-based provision is exempt from compulsory registration — for example, coaching in one or two activities such as sports or performing arts, within the limits in the government’s exemptions guidance. Provision that falls outside the exemptions, such as a multi-activity holiday club caring for under-8s for more than two hours a day, may need to register. Check the current guidance carefully, as it is an offence to provide childcare that needs registering without being registered.

Even if you’re exempt, joining the voluntary part of the Childcare Register can be worth it, because parents usually need a registered provider to pay with Tax-Free Childcare or existing childcare vouchers. If you register, say so clearly on your website and booking pages.

Can we deliver the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme?

HAF is a Department for Education programme in England that funds holiday activities and a healthy meal for children eligible for benefits-related free school meals, mainly over the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays. Local councils commission providers, usually through an open application process, so contact your council’s HAF team to find out when it next invites applications and what it expects on food, physical activity, safeguarding and DBS checks.

How can we work with local schools?

Many schools buy in after-school clubs, lunchtime sessions or PE support, and some let providers run holiday camps on site. Approach headteachers or school business managers with a clear offer, your safeguarding policy, DBS and insurance details, and examples of sessions you run. A good relationship with a school can also mean flyers in book bags, a mention in the newsletter and a link from the school website.

How do we keep children coming back each term?

Offer existing families the chance to rebook before places go on general sale, and make it easy with a simple online booking system. Short progress updates, end-of-term showcases or award badges help parents see the value. When popular sessions fill, keep a waiting list and use it to decide where to add a new class or venue.

Which credentials should we show parents?

Show coaching qualifications and national governing body awards for each activity, enhanced DBS checks, safeguarding training, paediatric or sports first aid, and your public liability insurance. If you’re on the Ofsted Childcare Register or approved for Tax-Free Childcare, say so. Named coach profiles with photos reassure parents more than a generic “fully qualified staff” line.

Be the club parents trust first.
