AEO, or answer engine optimisation, is the practice of making your business easy for AI tools to understand, trust and recommend. You’ll also hear it called GEO (generative engine optimisation) or AI SEO.
Traditional SEO gets you into a list of links. AEO aims to get your business named in the answer itself — the short recommendation people read in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews before they decide who to contact.

AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews build their answers from information they find about businesses across the web. When someone asks “who’s the best plumber near me?”, the assistant pulls together what it knows about local businesses and recommends a few.
AI search optimisation — also called AEO or GEO — makes that information clear, consistent and well-structured, so these tools understand what you do, where you work and why you are a good choice. That makes them more likely to mention you.
Can you guarantee I’ll appear in ChatGPT or rank #1?
No reputable provider can, and we’d be cautious of anyone who promises it — search engines and AI tools set their own results, and they change constantly.
