Why it matters
Why local SEO matters for vets
Most pet owners choose a vet within a short drive of home, and they start with a search. A new puppy, a house move, a worrying symptom or a bill that felt too high can all send someone looking for a different practice — and they compare reviews, opening hours and prices before they call.
Following the Competition and Markets Authority’s investigation into veterinary services, owners are paying more attention to price lists, prescriptions and who owns their practice. AI assistants are increasingly asked to recommend an independent, well-reviewed vet nearby.
We help your practice appear for those searches with an optimised Google profile, consistent listings, clear content about your services and fees, and hand-built links from relevant pet, animal welfare and local websites.
Our method
Next-level local SEO, engineered in four layers
Most local SEO providers work on one or two of these layers. We work on all four, every month — because that is what it now takes to win both the map and the AI answer.
Each layer strengthens the others: a complete profile gives AI tools facts to trust, consistent listings confirm those facts, answer-ready content gives them something to quote, and authority makes them confident enough to recommend you.
01
Map layer
A fully optimised, active Google Business Profile — categories, services, service areas, photos and regular updates. The foundation of every map pack ranking.
Google Maps · Local pack
02
Entity layer
Your business described identically across trusted UK directories and platforms, so search engines and AI models recognise exactly who you are, what you do and where.
Search engines · AI models
03
Answer layer
Website content shaped around the real questions customers ask, written and structured so AI assistants can understand it, quote it and recommend you.
ChatGPT · AI Overviews · Perplexity
04
Authority layer
Hand-built editorial links and mentions from relevant, established websites — the proof of trust that lifts rankings and makes AI tools confident in naming you.

SEO for vets: your questions
Will the content follow RCVS guidance and advertising rules?
Yes. We keep information about services, fees and treatments accurate and measured, use the correct titles for your vets and registered veterinary nurses, and avoid claims we cannot substantiate. The RCVS Code of Professional Conduct includes guidance on practice information and advertising, and the general UK advertising rules apply too.
We are happy for your clinical team to review anything before it goes live. Content written this way is also what pet owners and AI tools trust most.
How do the CMA changes affect our website and Google profile?
Following its market investigation, the Competition and Markets Authority made an order in September 2026 requiring veterinary businesses to publish standardised price lists, practice and ownership information, and to make owners aware of written prescriptions, among other measures. The requirements are being phased in from December 2026, with smaller businesses (fewer than 15 practices) given until between March and September 2027 for many of them. Check the CMA’s published order and guidance for the dates that apply to you.
We can make sure your price list, ownership information and out-of-hours details are easy to find on your website and consistent with your Google profile, which also helps owners who are comparing practices.
We have branch surgeries. Which plan do we need?
The Authority plan includes multi-location strategy, giving each surgery its own optimised Google profile and visibility in its own area, so your branches don’t compete with one another.
How long until we see more new registrations?
Profile and listing improvements can help within weeks. Stronger map rankings and AI visibility usually build over three to six months.
Is there a contract?
No. Plans are rolling monthly and you can cancel before your next billing date. Your profile, listings and links stay in place.
Should we show that we are an independent practice?
If you are, yes. Many owners now actively look for independent vets, and clear information about who owns a practice is becoming standard. Say it plainly on your website and Google profile, introduce the owners and the team, and explain what independence means in practice — for example, how you choose referral centres or suppliers.
Which credentials and memberships should we highlight?
Show that your vets are registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and your nurses are registered veterinary nurses. If your practice is accredited under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme, which is voluntary, display your accreditation level. Further qualifications, special interests and membership of bodies such as the British Veterinary Association or the British Small Animal Veterinary Association are also worth mentioning.
How can we keep clients coming back?
Pet health plans that spread the cost of vaccinations, parasite treatments and check-ups create predictable income and strong loyalty, especially when offered at a puppy or kitten’s first visit. Clear reminders for boosters and check-ups keep pets on track.
Kind, unhurried communication matters most. Owners remember how they were treated during an illness or a pet’s final days, and those moments drive both loyalty and reviews.
What are good ways for a vet practice to build local referrals?
Relationships with breeders, rescue centres, groomers, dog walkers, kennels and pet shops can all bring steady introductions. Puppy socialisation classes, free nurse clinics for weight or dental checks, and talks at local schools or community groups build your reputation and give people a reason to register.
